Ambode restates commitment to growth of small, medium enterprise
•Disburses N4.5billion to 5,527 businesses
Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has restated his administration commitment to the growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state even as he disclosed that a total amount of N4.5billion has been given to 5,527 MSMES in one year.
Speaking at the opening of the second Lagos MSMEs Exclusive Fair on Monday, he stated that the state will continue to implement enterprise-friendly policies and develop the critical infrastructure that would enhance productivity and competitiveness of all businesses in the state.
Represented by Secretary to the State Government, Tunji Bello, he added that the state’s Employment Trust Fund in one year has approved N4.5billion for 5,527MSMEs.
“The Fund in partnership with the UNDP and private sector employers will train 16,000 unemployed Lagosians to take up technical and vocational jobs. We will launch the innovation-driven enterprise framework to support businesses start ups in the fourth quarter of this year.
On his part, the Commissioner for Commerce Industries and Cooperatives, Prince Rotimi Ogunleye stated that the entrepreneurs displaying their products and services at this fair have been carefully selected based on the innovativeness, quality and marketing appeal of their brands.
“Over the next six days, the MSME Exclusive Fair will open its doors to consumers, investors and visitors to appreciate and patronise the array of exclusively Made in Lagos brands ranging from Finished Leather Goods; Food & Beverages; Textile, Fashion & Accessories, Household & domestic Products, Health, Fitness & Lifestyle Products, to Arts & Crafts and many more.
On his part, the Chairman House Committee on Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Lagos State House of Assembly, Honourable Oladele Adekanye noted that the bane of most MSMEs is the inability to finance their operations and growth needs.
Now, more than ever before, we as a State and Nation must step up our actions towards supporting the profitable growth of our small enterprises.
