Asaba Airport Company (AAC), the operators of Asaba International Airport, has taken a step towards modernising its operations with the deployment of an automated parking and access control system.
The adoption of the automated system would lead to enhanced efficiency, improve traffic management and boost revenue generation for the airport.
Interswitch is partnering with the company to deploy the equipment to the airport.
The company said that the smart parking solution is a fully automated Parking Management Platform (PMP) designed to streamline vehicular movement and eliminate the inefficiencies associated with manual parking systems.
The Managing Director, Asaba Airport Company, Christophe Penninck, told journalists yesterday that the system would enable real-time monitoring of vehicles, faster processing at entry and exit points, and ensure improved traffic flow within the airport premises.
He said the deployment of this equipment would serve as a key improvement to the airport as passenger numbers and vehicular traffic continue to rise.
Penninck added that the new system would not only enhance service delivery but also strengthen the airport’s revenue generation, as this would eliminate revenue leakages in the system and ensure accurate tracking of parking income.
He explained that the system also allows cashless payment options, which aligned with global best practices and reduced reliance on physical cash transactions, which he insisted had long been associated with inefficiencies and accountability challenges in public infrastructure.
Also commenting on the partnership, Vice President, Transport Ecosystem, Interswitch, Nnenna Ajanwachuku, said it reflected the company’s commitment to deploying technology that drives efficiency, transparency and seamless user experiences across critical sectors.
He explained that with the new platform, Interswitch was not only addressing operational challenges but also enabling smarter infrastructure that supports revenue growth and long-term sustainability.
