Lagos Business School (LBS) has announced Professor Albert Alos Endowed Chair in Strategic Management, marking a significant step in its effort to deepen strategic thought leadership in Africa.

The announcement was made at a ceremony held on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, at the Federal Palace Hotel and Casino, bringing together alumni, corporate leaders, faculty members, and partners. The event honoured Professor Albert Alos, the founding dean of LBS and former Vice-Chancellor of Pan-Atlantic University, whose leadership shaped the institution’s growth and reputation.

With the theme, “Legacy, leadership and the frontier of strategic management,” the event was a reflection on the past with a focus on future impact.

The Dean of LBS, Professor Olayinka David-West, opened the programme with a welcome address that emphasised the school’s commitment to building on its legacy while expanding its influence in strategic thinking.

A tribute session titled “Legacy Tribute – Architect of Excellence” followed, highlighting Professor Alos’s role in laying the foundation for the institution and mentoring generations of business leaders.

During the alumni reflections segment, Clare Omatseye and Lawrence Mba shared personal experiences of how Professor Alos influenced their careers and leadership styles.

Representing the Alumni President, Dr Owen Omogiafo, the Alumni Vice President, Valentine Okelu, reiterated the alumni community’s commitment to supporting the endowed chair. He described the initiative as a collective responsibility to sustain and extend the legacy of excellence associated with the school.

Speaking on “The Strategic Imperative: Advancing Strategic Thought Leadership for Africa,” Senior Partner at Kenna, Fabian Ajogwu stressed the need for Africa-driven frameworks in strategy, governance and leadership.

He noted that as global systems grow more complex, African institutions must develop context-specific approaches that reflect local realities while remaining globally relevant.

The formal unveiling of the endowed chair was one of the defining moments of the evening. It also included an invitation to the Founders’ Circle, signalling the start of an effort to secure support for the initiative. The move reflects LBS’s intention to establish a sustainable platform for research, teaching and engagement in strategic management.

Professor Albert Alos, who was born in Barcelona, Spain, studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Bilbao, where he earned a doctorate in 1966. He began his academic career in Kenya before moving to Nigeria in 1967, where he went on to teach at institutions including the University of Lagos, University of Ibadan and Obafemi Awolowo University.

He later became the founding dean of Lagos Business School and the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Pan-Atlantic University, playing a key role in shaping management education and ethical business leadership in Africa. In recognition of his contributions, he was granted Nigerian citizenship in 2022.

The ceremony ended with a toast by Ejovi Aror and closing remarks from Chief Raymond Ihyembe, Chairman of the Endowed Chair Committee.

LBS also acknowledged the support of its sponsors and media partners, including Federal Palace Hotel and Casino, SLOT Systems Limited, Kenna, Channels Television, BusinessDay Media and The Guardian Nigeria.
