
In a pioneering move to bridge the gap between academia and the industry, Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited, operator of Kainji, Jebba, Zungeru and Kashimbila hydropower plants, has launched its university outreach programme at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU).
Drawing a large number of engineering students eager to engage with industry experts, the programme is expected to improve the employability skills of undergraduates.
The outreach programme provided a valuable platform for students to interact with industry professionals, gain insights into emerging technologies, and explore potential career opportunities in the energy sector.
Speaking at the event, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Abdulfatai Murana said there is a growing partnership between ABU and Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited.
The delegation from Mainstream was led by Executive Director of Finance, Siraj Abdullahi, and included engineers and members of the Corporate Communications team from the company’s various hydro power plants.
In his address, Abdullahi reaffirmed Mainstream’s commitment to supporting the professional development of Nigerian students. He highlighted the company’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of engineers and technicians, particularly in the field of renewable energy, with a focus on hydropower.
A key moment of the event was the announcement of a N2 million donation to the Nigerian Union of Engineering Students Association.
President of the association, Al-Kassim Zango expressed deep gratitude for the generous pledge, stating that the funds would support student development initiatives and enhance the overall learning experience for aspiring engineers.
