Digital payments company OPay has dismissed reports circulating on social media suggesting that its offices in Lagos and Abuja were sealed by the Nigeria Revenue Service over alleged tax non-compliance.
In a statement issued by OPay Digital Services Limited, the company said its offices across Nigeria remain open and operational, describing the claims as inaccurate.
“Our offices across Nigeria, including Lagos and Abuja, remain open and fully operational, and we continue to serve our customers, partners, and merchants without disruption,” the company said.
OPay stated that it continues to comply with all relevant tax obligations and regulatory requirements while maintaining cooperation with government agencies.
The company said it works closely with regulators to ensure its operations align with statutory standards within Nigeria’s financial services sector.
According to the statement, the notice referenced in online reports relates to an industry-wide directive issued by the Nigeria Revenue Service requiring payment platforms to separate certain statutory charges on their applications.
The directive, the company said, was introduced to improve reconciliation and transparency across digital payment systems and applies to multiple operators in the sector.
OPay maintained that the directive does not indicate tax non-payment by the company.
The fintech firm also criticised what it described as the selective mention of OPay in reports concerning a broader industry matter.
It said linking the administrative directive specifically to the company could create misleading impressions about its compliance record.
“For the avoidance of doubt, information circulating online suggesting that OPay is shutting down or that our offices have been sealed should be disregarded,” the statement said.
OPay added that it remains committed to supporting Nigeria’s digital economy by providing financial services to millions of users across the country.
The company said its services to customers, merchants and partners nationwide continue without interruption.
