Notch Captains Limited, operating under the Approval in Principle and Safety Frameworks of the Automobile and Touring Club of Nigeria (ATCN), the sole representative of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) in Nigeria, has announced the launch of the inaugural Nigerian Drivers Challenge (Naija Driver 2026).

The initiative, being organised in strategic technical collaboration with the Lagos State Drivers Institute (LASDRI), is designed to promote road safety awareness, responsible driving and improved knowledge of road-use regulations among motorists across the country.

In a statement signed by the Director of Media, Communications, Marketing and Public Relations of the Naija Driver 2026 Organising Committee, Ingram Osigwe, the organisers said registration and safety screening for the competition would open free of charge on September 1, 2026, through its digital learning portal.

The challenge is open to Nigerian residents aged between 18 and 65 who hold valid driver’s licences.

According to the organisers, registered participants will have access to digital study materials covering defensive driving, road-use laws, crash-site management, first response and victims’ stabilisation during the critical “golden seconds”, as well as preventive vehicle maintenance.

The digital training programme will culminate in a Unified National Computer-Based Test (CBT) scheduled for October 2026, with candidates expected to take the examination simultaneously across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Project Director and Managing Director of Notch Captains Limited, Adrian Egonu, said the competition would adopt a decentralised verification process to minimise logistical challenges and ensure the integrity of the results.

He explained that the three highest-scoring candidates from each state and the FCT would undergo physical document verification and practical screening in their respective locations in October.

The overall state champions emerging from the process will subsequently be invited to Lagos for the final physical driving challenge scheduled for November 7 to 10, 2026.
