Can we meet you?
My name is Esther Opeyemi Caulcrick. I was born on the March 18, 2003. I was born and brought up in Lagos, Nigeria.
What type of enterprise are you into?

I run a small business, called ‘Surprises by Caulcrick.’ The business is so-called after my last name. We deal in affordable surprises. The idea is to enable every one afford it, most especially teenagers.

What made you go into the business?
In starting the business, I was thinking of something that I love doing, and I discovered that surprising people and making people around me happy is one thing I love doing the most. I discussed the idea with my sister in 2018 and started work in 2019.

What challenges did you face starting it?
At first, I was skeptical about the business because I felt I was too young and did not know where to start from. So, I decided to start from my friends and family. I watched a lot of surprise videos and even begged my siblings to do a surprise for my dad, so I could see it physically. With the help of my elder sister, I created an account and did my very first surprise.

Unfortunately, however, my sister left the country, which left me to be the only one in the business. It was really difficult for me, as I thought I could not do it alone or handle it properly, since I had to go to school at the same time. But because it was something I was passionate about and I wanted to stand out among my peers and be a source of encouragement to young people like myself, I decided to push through. I was bent on pushing forward and not looking back.

What is your vision for the business?
Since I started my business on July 2, 2019 till date, I have been improving and getting better. It has been my desire to do something worthwhile for orphanage homes. I have always wanted to be the best I can be. So, the idea is to assist other people with some of the proceeds from the business. I also intend saving the rest to build my business and make it bigger and better. The motto of my business is ‘Cherishing Moments.’ I chose this motto because I want people to always remember the special moments they have had with their families or loved ones.

What is your advice to other kids?
My advice to every kid and teen out there is that they should know that they are not too small to start a business or anything they love to do. Just believe in yourself and go after your dream. All it requires is hard work and consistency.
