Etochi Ejike Asiegbu: The kid actor
Can we meet you?
My name is Etochi Ejike Asiegbu. I am 13 years old and in JSS3 in Topgrade Secondary School, Lagos.
What do you do?
I am an actor.
How did you start acting?
I started acting at the age of five, with the popular kiddies show, called KKB show aired on Silverbird television.
Since you started, have you got any award?
Yes, I won the Child Best Actor in The Best of Nollywood Awards (BON) in 2015. I also won the Best English Actor in the City People Entertainment Award in 2017.
In which movies have you acted on?
They are many and they include Little Ryan, Engaging Mimi, My Soulmate, After The I do’s, Walking With Shadows, Nigerian Trade, Home Too Far, Anave, Sweep (series). I am also in a TV series called, “it’s a Crazy world” that runs on Silverbird television every Thursday at 8pm.
Have there been challenges in this field of activity?
Some of the challenges include those encountered in some shoots, on the major road with traffic, as well as encounters with touts sometimes!
How do you tackle these problems? What precautions do you take?
My mom, who is my manager, takes care of all the challenges and risks. She sees to it that I am always fine.
Who are your role models?
My role models are my father, Ejike Asiegbu and Funke Akindele.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In the next five years, I will be 18 years old and in the university. But I am still going to be very much into acting.
From where do you get your inspiration?
Watching my dad at home, and lots of foreign movies has really given me a lot of inspiration.
How do you balance school and acting?
My mom makes sure I don’t miss school. So, most of the shootings are done during weekends or when I am on holiday.
What is your advice to other children?
They should not be shy. If you have any talent, show it to the world and believe in yourself.
