My name is Favour Kanu. I am 16 years old and from Abia State. I am a passionate young entrepreneur.I make cleaning agents, such as liquid soap, germicide (Izal) and bleach (Jik), among others.I started this business when I was 13 and in Junior Secondary School (JSS). It’s quite a challenging story, but I must share part of it for people to learn from it.

It all started when my dad took ill and paying my school fees became difficult. So, I discussed with my mum to incorporate and intimate her of my idea to start making germicide (Izal), bleach (Jik) and others. She was solely into making liquid soap. She listened and supported the idea, and that was all.

But the door opened for me when one fateful day, I overheard a woman complain about buying a packet of detergent that did not last long and wasn’t enough for her washing. I thought about it and introduced my liquid soap to her, which she tried and liked. After that, she began to introduce me to some of her friends, and that was how the business started flourishing.

The women were very pleased with my liquid soap and other products. They said my products were effective and economical. My business name is Triumphant Cleanser. I came up with this name as a result of the challenges my family passed through, and which we were able to overcome.

There is no business without its challenges, but the most important thing is how one handles the challenges. Your consistency, persistent and determination will surely see you through. One of the challenges I have is making the liquid soap. There is so much stress mixing and stirring the chemicals to achieve the expected result. This requires lots of energy. Packaging is also challenging, but I’m not going to give up; I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.

My mom, elder brother and sister assist me. They make sure I meet up with customers’ demands. My mom, elder sister (Precious) and my elder brother (Sunday) are my role models. I have learnt a lot from them and always want to make them proud.I get customers from referrals and have made some money because my products are for daily use. They are good for homes and offices.

My vision is to make Triumphant Cleanser a global outfit, get more customers and make more sales. My advice to other young people like me is for them to start any business idea that comes to them. I always tell my friends: “You are not too young to be an entrepreneur.” If I can do it, definitely others can also do it. They should be committed, diligent and consistent. They should not give up, no matter the challenges because after a challenge comes promotion. That is my belief!
