My name is Lawal Mariam Boluwatife. I am a professional fashion designer, and the CEO of Oyewunmi Stitches.

When I was much younger, I always admired dresses made by other fashion designers.

So, I developed much interest in it. I told my parents about wanting to learn fashion designing and they accepted.

I learnt the basics of fashion designing immediately, and that was the starting point.

I was professionally taught the various aspects of designing and that was when I got to learn more about designing. Oyewunmi Stitches started officially as a brand on December 28, 2017.

The motivation behind Oyewunmi Stitches is from the young people I see who are making move to become successful human beings and contributing their quota to the development of the country’s economy.

This inspires me not to push ahead and not relent in the pursuit of my dream, which is the only way to be successful. I am proud to be among Nigerian Teenpreneurs that are making waves in the country.

Initially, I encountered many challenges, when I started the organisation.

In the beginning, I was a little scared to cut people’s cloth, but I later summoned courage to do so. But when people started seeing my handwork, they showed more interest.

Lack of adequate capital was another major problem I faced, but with determination and hard work, I kept going and I am glad I was able to overcome the challenges.

Some of my role models are CEO Lumine, E28 Couture and Valisimo. They inspire me a lot with their uniqueness and creativity.

The little problem Oyewunmi Stitches is solving is mainly the financial aspect of designing.

We make nice, beautiful and creative wears at affordable prices. We also see people endowed with so much elegance, but who are unable to express it. We help our clients discover the unique elegance for each body type.

Oyewunmi Stitches’ vision is to become a popular fashion industry, known for quality, uniqueness and royalty by 2021. We also want to teach other youths more about fashion designing

My advice to people out there is that they should follow their dreams, be steadfast and be consistent. In addition, they should never give up because decisions we make today can make our tomorrow either better or bitter.
