Flutterwave, a pan-African financial technology company, has announced the rollout of its licensed digital payment services in Cameroon. The development follows official regulatory approval from the Central Bank for Central African States (BEAC), allowing the firm to operate as a payment services provider in the country.
The company stated that its presence in Cameroon is designed to support local businesses with tools for accepting payments, making payouts, and managing financial operations. Flutterwave operates in 34 African countries and facilitates cross-border payments for thousands of businesses.
Through a technical partnership with Ecobank, Flutterwave secured its payment services license, ensuring that operations in Cameroon adhere to regional financial regulations. The company said the license allows it to offer mobile money, card, and bank transfer payment options to local merchants without the need for expensive infrastructure.
Flutterwave’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Olugbenga Agboola, said the company’s technology is designed to serve businesses of all sizes across different sectors.
“A boutique in Yaoundé can set up a payment link and share it through WhatsApp or Instagram, just like a restaurant in Douala can send digital invoices to customers with built-in payment options,” Agboola said. “A logistics business can pay its delivery team and vendors through a single, unified dashboard.”
He added, “Cameroon holds a central place in the future of Africa’s digital economy, and we’re proud to play a part in unlocking its potential. By offering secure, compliant, and accessible payment solutions, we’re creating opportunities for businesses of all sizes—from local merchants to global brands—to grow and thrive. Our presence here is not just about technology; it’s about long-term partnership, trust, and enabling prosperity across Central Africa.”
Also speaking, Bode Aregbesola, Flutterwave’s Senior Vice President for Sales in West Africa, emphasized the company’s local focus.
“We know what it takes to run a business in Africa, and we’ve built our solutions to support that reality,” Aregbesola said. “Flutterwave is helping everyone—from local businesses to international brands—accept payments, streamline operations, and expand with confidence. With our digital payments license, we’re able to do all of that securely and at scale in Cameroon.”
Flutterwave said it aims to strengthen Cameroon’s digital economy by expanding financial access and simplifying payments for businesses across sectors.
