The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC) has announced plans to host its 2026 Audit and Assurance Leadership Summit, with a focus on strengthening audit integrity, accountability and reliable financial reporting as Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to reshape the profession.

The summit, themed “Audit Integrity in the AI Era: Independence, Accountability and Reliable Financial Reporting,” will be held on August 13, 2026, at the Lagos Marriott Hotel, Ikeja, bringing together regulators, audit professionals, corporate leaders, academics, investors, technology experts, policymakers and governance practitioners.

According to a press statement issued by FRC, the event is intended to advance discussions on audit quality, assurance, governance and the transformational impact of AI on the audit profession, while examining the opportunities, risks and responsibilities associated with the adoption of the technology.

The Council said the rapid pace at which emerging technologies are changing business operations and financial reporting has made audit integrity, professional scepticism, auditor independence and stakeholder accountability more important than ever.

“The Summit will provide a platform for high-level dialogue on strengthening assurance, governance, and the reliability of financial reports in an increasingly AI-driven economy,” the FRC said.

It added that the event would feature keynote presentations by local and international thought leaders, regulatory and policy updates on the future of audit and assurance, as well as discussions on AI, audit quality and professional ethics.

Participants will also examine practical approaches to improving assurance, governance and the reliability of financial reporting, while engaging with regulators, industry leaders and other stakeholders through networking sessions.

According to the Council, the summit is targeted at audit and assurance professionals, chief executive officers, executive directors, chief finance officers, finance executives, audit committee members, internal auditors, regulators, policymakers, investors, financial analysts, academics, researchers, corporate governance practitioners, technology and AI professionals, as well as stakeholders from the public and private sectors.

The FRC urged stakeholders across the financial reporting ecosystem to participate in what it described as an important national conversation on the future of auditing in an AI-driven business environment.

“The FRC invites the financial reporting ecosystem and the wider public to join this important national dialogue as Nigeria examines how the audit profession can uphold integrity, independence, accountability and public trust in an AI-driven business environment,” it stated.
