‘How ‘Nigeria First’ policy execution can turn tide for manufacturers’

President of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Francis Meshioye, has lamented the country’s deteriorating business operating environment.

Meshioye, however, said key reforms, such as the introduction of the ‘Nigeria First’, a decisive strategy to prioritise consumption of locally-manufactured goods and services, can turn the fortunes of the sector around if implemented properly.

Speaking at a press conference to herald the 53rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association, which is scheduled to hold from 14th to 16th October 2025 in Lagos, he said the policy represents a turning point for the country, one that seeks to foster economic self-reliance, industrialisation and national pride.

“By mandating all ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to patronise made in Nigeria goods and services that can be sourced locally, the Federal Government has signalled its resolve to place local industries at the heart of economic transformation.

As the umbrella body representing over 2,500 manufacturing industries across 10 sectors and 70 sub-sectors, we recognise the transformative potential of this policy,” he said.

While the policy holds immense promise, he said, its success depends on inclusive and deliberate implementation. He added that this required addressing long-standing structural challenges, infrastructure, regulation, financing gaps and capacity building.

“Only through coordinated action, sustained investment and accountability can we unlock the full potential of this policy,” he noted.

Themed, ‘Nigeria First: Prioritising Patronage of Made in Nigeria’, Meshioye said the focus underscored their unwavering belief that prioritising local production is the surest path to sustainable growth, employment generation and national development.

He said the presence of Aliko Dangote, the guest speaker, would inspire massive participation.
Revealing that the three days will be packed with business-enriching activities, he said it would kick off with the Made-in Nigeria Exhibition, which would be opened by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

“Over 100 exhibitors will be showcasing their products and thousands of visitors are expected during the event. Day 2 would feature the AGM and panel discussion on ‘3D Manufacturing and Risk and Enterprise Management’ , while the engagement will climax with the fifth edition of the Adeola Odutola lecture/presidential luncheon,” he said.
