IICC to reposition sector with Third Edition of 2017 conference
The third edition of the Insurance Industry Consultative Conference (IICC), where the stakeholders in the sector would converge to discuss issues affecting the economy, as it relates to insurance, is scheduled to hold July 9 to 11th in Abuja.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, the Chairman, Insurance Conference Planning Committee, and Managing Director of Scib Insurance Brokers Limited, Shola Tinubu, said the idea behind the formation of the IICC is to give a unified and cohesive voice to the industry. This is with a view to making it accelerate its impact and contributions to the nation’s economy.
According to him, the conference theme, “Nigeria Open for Business” could not have been more timely and apt than now, when the policy direction of the present administration is towards the ease of doing business initiatives.
This is being spearheaded by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), under the Chairmanship of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, as Chairman, and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah, as the Vice Chairman.
The chairman explained that the conference will foster intellectual and professional development of practitioners, and also create a platform for networking and exchange of ideas between operators and critical stakeholders in the nation’s economy.
He said the Conference would also highlight the catalytic role the insurance industry in achieving financial inclusion and by so doing, accelerating its contributions to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product.
Speaking further on the theme, he said: “the selection of the Conference theme fits into the second phase of the Council’s plans in deepening existing reforms, completing and implementing pending initiatives, engaging with the public and validating completed reforms that would kick off medium term reforms. It is quite clear that there is no way any nation’s economy could develop when it greatly depends on foreign made goods.”
The conference will be declared open by the Acting President, while the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, will give the Goodwill message, with the Commissioner for Insurance, Mohammed Kari, as the Chief Host.
Speakers at the conference include Tony Elumelu, Chairman of Tony Elumelu Foundation, to be chaired by Adeosun, while a team of seasoned discussants, notably Dr. Joseph Nnanna, Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria; Kyari Abba Bukar, former Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group; and Mrs. Yewande Sadiku, Executive Secretary, Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission.
