LASG not frustrating insurance monitoring, says NIA

THE Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) has refuted newspaper report on database monitoring, but stated that the association and the Lagos State Government are working together for launching of the database  in the State.

    A press statement signed by Head, |Corporate Affairs of the Association, Davis Iyasere, said our attention has been drawn to the incorrect newspaper report, stating  “We would like to take the opportunity to state that the story does not represent the true state of affairs as it concerns the relationship between the Nigerian Insurers Association and the Lagos State Government in respect of the launch of the Nigerian Insurance Industry database monitoring devices to be used by relevant law enforcement agents of the government.”

  The true position is that the Association is engaging stakeholders in the state including the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA), the VIO, and Ministry of Transport, the supervisory ministry with a view to launching the Nigerian Insurance Industry database monitoring device in the state.

  We must restate that the Hon. Commissioner for Transport, Comrade Kayode Opeifa,  has been most supportive of our efforts to see that the device is launched in the state.

  To turn around and accuse the state government of frustrating the launching of the device will be most unfair.

  Senior officials of Lagos State governor have shown tremendous support for the project fully convinced that it remains a veritable mechanism for wiping out fake insurance certificates.

  The story is a misrepresentation of the state of affairs as it concerns the relationship between Lagos State government and the Nigerian Insurers Association.

   The Association views the state government as a critical stakeholder in the battle against fake motor insurance certificates and would continue to seek the support and collaboration of the state to win the war.

  The Association acknowledges the fact that the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola has been in the forefront of efforts to promote insurance culture in Nigeria and has taken advantage of every available opportunity to propagate the gospel of insurance.

  It is on record that only Lagos State has domesticated the law on insurance of Buildings under construction amongst other laws on insurance.
