The maritime industry recently celebrated one of its distinguished professionals, Dr. Mrs. Chizoba Christiana Anyika, as the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) honoured her for Outstanding Performance, Exemplary Leadership and Meritorious Service in the Nigerian Maritime Industry.

The recognition, presented by the leadership and members of Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) under the presidency of Mrs. Vera Osokpo, represents a significant acknowledgement of Dr. Anyika’s longstanding contributions to Nigeria’s maritime sector and her commitment to professional excellence, leadership and institutional development.

For more than two decades, Dr. Anyika has built a multifaceted career spanning maritime administration, transport logistics, marine tourism, professional advocacy, communications and leadership. Her career reflects a consistent passion for strengthening Nigeria’s maritime sector and promoting greater opportunities for women and young professionals within the industry.

As a Deputy Director at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and Head of Maritime Guard Command Administration, Dr. Anyika has been involved in critical administrative responsibilities relating to personnel management, welfare, audit, accommodation, infrastructure and operational support.

Her professional engagement extends beyond her public service responsibilities. She has also played visible roles in professional associations and industry initiatives, including her leadership responsibilities within Women in Energy, Oil & Gas (WEOG) and the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIOTA).

Her advocacy for women’s participation, leadership development, marine tourism, blue economy opportunities and sustainable development has further distinguished her as a professional who sees the maritime sector not merely as an industry, but as a platform for national economic transformation.

Her academic background reinforces this multidisciplinary approach. With a PhD in Transport Logistics specialising in Marine Tourism and an MSc in Marine Policy from Cardiff University, Dr. Anyika has continued to connect policy, professional practice and emerging opportunities within the maritime and blue economy space.

The AMJON award therefore comes at a significant point in a career defined by service, visibility, advocacy and impact.

In an especially touching gesture, AMJON also incorporated the celebration of Dr. Anyika’s birthday into the programme.
