Investors gained over N1.1 trillion in three trading days despite the enormous impact of Dangote Petroleum Refinery initial public offer (IPO) on the stock market.
The market capitalisation of listed equities which stood at N157.578 trillion last week Friday, closed yesterday at N158.714 trillion, adding N1.127 trillion.
Similarly, the all-share index, which measures the performance of listed equities appreciated by 1,739.05 points or 0.7 per cent from 243,052.74 to 244.791.79 points.
Yesterday’s upturn was driven by price appreciation in both large and medium capitalised stocks amongst which are NGXGroup, MTN, Nigerian Breweries, Transcorp, UPDC REIT, Champion Breweries, Livestock Feeds and United Bank for Africa.
On the price movement chart, 34 stocks recording price appreciation, while 26 stocks declined. Sovereign Trust Insurance led the gainers’ chart, appreciating by 9.69 per cent to close at N2.15 kobo. Champion Breweries followed with a 9.5 per cent increase to close at N10.95 kobo.
Livestock Feeds advanced by 9.42 per cent to close at N7.55 kobo, while Learn Africa gained 9.09 per cent to close at N8.40 kobo.
Mutual Benefits Assurance also garnered 8.93 per cent to close at N3.05 kobo. UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust rose by 8.47 per cent to close at N16. McNichols Consolidated also appreciated by 8.33 per cent to close at N5.20 kobo.
VFD Group advanced by 7.98 per cent to close at N11.50 kobo, while Nigerian Breweries rose by 5.20 per cent to close at N76.90 kobo.
However, Industrial and Medical Gases emerged day’s highest proce loser, declining by 9.93 per cent to close at N27.65 kobo.
John Holt followed with a 9.88 per cent decline to close at N7.30 kobo. Livingtrust Mortgage Bank dropped by 9.84 per cent to close at N2.84 kobo.
Fidson Healthcare declined by 9.19 per cent to close at N72.65 kobo. Royal Exchange lost nine per cent to close at 91 kobo.
International Energy Insurance shed 7.02 per cent to close at N2.12 kobo. UPDC also declined by 6.06 per cent.
On the sectoral performance, the NGX Consumer Goods Index recorded one of the strongest performances, rising from 4,081.31 points to 4,114.3 points, representing a gain of about 0.81 per cent.
The NGX Banking Index also advanced from 2,548 points to 2,553.08 points, reflecting continued buying interest in selected banking stocks. The NGX Insurance Index also advanced from 1,051.62 points to 1,068.05 points, while the NGX Industrial Index was virtually flat, moving from 9,936.57 points to 9,936.78 points.
However, the oil and gas index slipped marginally from 6,035.23 points to 6,033.07 points, while the NGX Growth Index declined from 26,725.57 points to 26,533.97 points.
