The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has honoured the West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) and APM Terminals Nigeria for their significant contributions to the development of the maritime sector.
The NCS recognised the terminals as the “Best Terminal Operator” during the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Awards held in Abuja. The CGC, Bashir Adeniyi, stated that the recognition was based on the terminals’ exceptional performance, contributions to maritime development and efforts in boosting trade facilitation.
He emphasised that the award highlights the companies’ commitment to operational excellence, innovation and customer satisfaction. Receiving the award on behalf of the company, the General Manager of Government and Public Relations for WACT-APM Terminals Nigeria, Innocent Ogbuji, expressed gratitude to the NCS for the recognition, noting that it reinforces the company’s pivotal role in the nation’s maritime industry.
Ogbuji remarked that the award underscores the terminal’s dedication to facilitating trade, fostering innovation and driving economic growth in West Africa. He affirmed the company’s commitment to maintaining its position as a leading terminal operator by leveraging cutting-edge technology, prioritising safety, investing in human capital, fostering a strong team culture, driving corporate social responsibility initiatives and implementing sustainable practices.
Ogbuji further highlighted the $115 million terminal upgrade inaugurated by Vice President Kashim Shettima in September 2024, describing it as a significant milestone in driving the nation’s economic growth.
He highlighted that the investment, which included infrastructure upgrades to enhance efficiency, capacity, and sustainability, reflects APM Terminals’ confidence in Nigeria’s economic potential.
