The National Assembly Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola and the Secretary of the Government of the Federation (SGF), Dr George Akume have underscored the importance of leadership role in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda for the maritime industry’s contribution to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and diversifying the economy.

   
He stated this at a reception held in honour of the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’s Council (NSC), Pius Akutah, by Benue Professionals in Lagos.
   
Oyetola, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr Charles Akinola, noted that the maritime sector is integral to the country’s economic development, adding that the selection of capable leaders like Akuta is key to achieving the government’s objectives. 
     
The Minister praised the exemplary leadership of Akuta, highlighting his pivotal role in advancing the maritime sector. Oyetola affirmed Akuta’s qualifications as a distinguished public servant and legal expert, emphasising that under his leadership, the NSC, as the economic regulator in the maritime sector, has been tasked with ensuring that services are standardised and aligned with global best practices.
 
The SGF praised Akuta’s exceptional qualities of intelligence, humility, and dedication to service, noting his ability to combine vision with action and qualities have already yielded significant achievements for the Nigerian Shippers’ Council and the wider community.
 
Akume, represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr Chris Takar, commended Akutah’s contributions to the maritime sector and the nation at large.
     
He highlighted Akuta’s journey since taking office, emphasising that his early accomplishments have set a high standard for leadership within the current administration. 
      
Representing the National Assembly (NASS), the Chairman, Senate Public Account Committee, Ahmed Wadada, highlighted the role of dynamic leadership and commitment to national development as well as the importance of remaining adaptable and responsive to the needs of society.
       
He lauded Akutah’s pragmatic and dynamic leadership as well as his proactive approach to revisiting the NSC age-long Act that established the council, noting that this exemplifies his forward-thinking nature.
       
Speaking earlier, the Chairman, Central Planning Committee of the event, Dr. Ben Vangerwua, expressed the collective pride of Benue State in the NSC boss achievements, describing him as a “shining example of what it means to be a true public servant.”
     
Vangerwua expressed confidence that with Akutah at the helm of the Shippers’ Council, the nation will witness transformative leadership that will foster growth and development in the maritime sector and beyond.
 
The Shippers’ Council boss expressed his profound gratitude to key figures who have shaped his career and life, praising them for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the NSC and the maritime industry forward.
