Nigerian private sectors unite in the fight against COVID-19

It’s no news how the new coronavirus, (COVID-19) is ravaging many countries of the world, Nigeria inclusive. As there’s currently no vaccine to prevent the coronavirus disease, aggressive measures are being taken to curb the spread of the disease and limit its negative impacts on the economy.

In this regard, the Nigerian private sector, through the Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID), has risen to support the Nigerian Government efforts in the fight to eradicate Coronavirus from Nigeria.

The initiative is led by industry giants, such as Access Bank Group, Aliko Dangote Foundation, Zenith Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank, UBA, First Bank, MTN, KPMG and many others. CACOVID was created as a response of the Nigerian private sector to the outbreak of the coronavirus and their collective desire to protect and preserve humanity and combat the spread of the virus in the country.

Following a statement, the group deemed it essential to build synergy among all stakeholders for a better, stronger and bigger coalition, which can harness pulled resources and commonwealth to sustain and eventually win the battle against coronavirus.

The group is tasked with the responsibility to support the Nigerian Government in its efforts to combat Coronavirus in Nigeria, to mobilizing private sector thought leadership, to utilising the resources of the private sector, to provide direct support to private and public healthcare’s ability to respond to this crisis and to increase general public awareness of the existence of coronavirus.

As part of these efforts, CACOVID will continue to build fully-equipped medical tents as testing, isolation, treatment and training centres. These centres will be equipped with medical equipment, supplies and trained personnel to support sick patients. Work has begun in earnest to ensure it’s timely completion in order to serve the growing needs of the population.

The current daily statistics of COVID-19 infections have shown that the virus is fast spreading across the country. It is therefore imperative for all individuals, organisations, and bodies to join efforts towards ensuring the timely eradication of the virus in Nigeria.
