VP Osibanjo reiterates ‘computer impact’ on economy

Improved computing capacity, agility and flexibility have continued to shape the development of modern economics by permitting formal theory to be applied to large databases.

The result has led to the development of different econometrics and a much wider range of economic analyses, including inter-industry analysis, regional economics, public finance and governmental decision-making, the development of macroeconomic models for large-scale economic forecasts and simulations, and analysis of economic aspects of public policy issues, especially those pertaining to education, health, agriculture, telecoms, commerce and poverty reduction.

These were key ingredients of congratulatory message by Professor Yemi Osibanjo, vice president of Nigeria, to three winners out of 30 finalists at the grand finale of Aso Villa Demo Day 2016 (AVDD2016) held in Abuja, recently.

According to the Prof. Osibanjo, “computer plays big role in our everyday lives, and even our extraordinary moments. Computer has become so powerful that youths today cannot say they want to be part of the government; they are already part of the government and playing key roles”.

The VP who congratulated all the participants, saying they are all winners, also lauded the country’s youths for their innovation, creativity, drive and entrepreneurial spirit, as “there is so much hope in what the young generation can do”.

The VP President’s speech reaffirms drives by companies like Intel Corporation and Microsoft who have been providing technological supports to start-ups.

Recently, Intel launched “With a Computer, You are Powerful” campaign aimed at unlocking the abilities of young people to get online any time, read, research and explore different concepts that spur creative ideas for their business and/or lifestyle; “just a snippet of the kind of power a computer offers you.”
