Wema Bank has been named Nigeria’s Best Digital Bank for Consumers 2026 by Euromoney, a global financial services publication known for its annual banking awards.
The recognition highlights the bank’s efforts in digital innovation, customer experience and financial inclusion, further strengthening its position as a technology-driven financial institution in Nigeria.
According to the bank, the award acknowledges its digital transformation journey, particularly through ALAT, Africa’s first fully digital bank, as well as its commitment to providing accessible and customer-focused banking services.
The Euromoney Awards for Excellence are presented annually to financial institutions that demonstrate innovation, measurable impact and value creation within the banking sector.
Reacting to the award, Wema Bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Moruf Oseni, said the recognition validates the bank’s long-term investment in digital banking and customer-focused solutions.
“This award is a strong validation of the deliberate investments we have made over the years to build a truly digital bank that puts customers at the centre of everything we do,” Oseni said.
He noted that the bank’s approach to innovation has been driven by the need to simplify banking services and improve customer experiences rather than adopting technology for its own sake.
“From pioneering Africa’s first fully digital bank with ALAT to continuously evolving our digital capabilities, we have remained focused on anticipating customer needs and building experiences that create real value,” he added.
Wema Bank said a significant aspect of its digital transformation has been the continued development of ALAT, which now offers features such as voice banking, tap-to-pay functionality, personalised financial services and integrated investment opportunities through strategic partnerships.
The bank also highlighted improvements in digital onboarding processes, artificial intelligence-powered fraud monitoring, customer personalisation tools and the expansion of its agency banking network as part of efforts to enhance service delivery and broaden access to financial services.
According to the bank, Euromoney also recognised its use of technology and data analytics to provide tailored recommendations to customers across savings, investment and credit products based on their financial needs and behaviour.
Founded more than eight decades ago, Wema Bank said it remains committed to leveraging technology and innovation to deliver secure, seamless and inclusive banking services to individuals, businesses and communities across Nigeria.
The bank stated that the latest recognition reinforces its commitment to advancing digital banking through innovation, operational excellence and customer-centric solutions.
