A PETITION calling for the probe of alleged illegal recruitments and promotions at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has been forwarded to the Minister of Transport, Idris Umar. The petition, put together by “Concerned Staff” of NIMASA, alleged that some senior staff were allegedly employed illegally and assigned positions beyond their qualifications.

THE Nigeria Shippers’ Council (NSC) has announced plans to strengthen foreign exchange conditions for commercial banks and their customers in the maritime sector. THE Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Habib Abdullahi has called for the urgent convocation of a national conference on the delineation of functions amongst agencies of government, responsible for maritime safety and security. According to Abdullahi, the conference, which he said was long overdue, should be tripartite in nature with the active participation of the Marine Police, the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Maritime Administration & Safety Agency (NIMASA).
