Activists in Durban declaration, flay REDD+ scheme in Africa

AMID current deforestation rate in Nigeria estimated at 3.7 per cent, which is one of the highest in the world, activists from the civil society alternative space have called for the cancellation of the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+) programme in Africa, saying that the scheme promotes monoculture plantations and genetically modified trees and violates human rights.
