The Principal, Queens College, Lagos, Mrs. Oyindamola Obabori, has advised the graduating class of 2023 to always sharpen their 21st Century skills for success in the global world.
Speaking recently at the school’s graduation ceremony, Obabori told the 567 graduands that the world of work is rapidly changing in this age of artificial intelligence, and urged them to strive to overcome the challenges they might encounter and work hard to surpass the achievements of old girls of the college that are doing exploits across the world, in diverse fields.
To encourage self-reliance upon graduation, thereby reducing the level of youth unemployment, the principal said the college runs a ‘Potential Club,’ which ensures that each student learns one or more skills.
Obabori noted that the students are graduating at a unique and challenging time in the country’s history, and commended them for their strength, resilience and adaptability.
She said: “Despite the uncertainties and obstacles you have faced while here, you have emerged as shining examples of determination and perseverance. Throughout your years at Queen’s College, you have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence. The achievements are a testament to your hard work, dedication and passion.”
She advised them to embrace the opportunities that come their way with open minds, pointing out that success is not only measured by grades or accolades, but by the impact made in the lives of others.
While expressing confidence in their ability to succeed, the principal reminded the graduands that they can do, and achieve anything they set their minds to. “Believe in yourselves, embrace your passions and never lose sight of the values and principles that were instilled in you while you were here.”
In her remarks, the special guest, Mrs. Olawumi Fajemirokun, urged the graduands to embrace new challenges, remain curious and never stop learning, so as to shape a bright and promising future for themselves.
While commending the teachers, other staff and parents who played a pivotal role in their journey, the Executive Director of Oladele Fajemirokun Foundation, advised the graduands to believe in their capabilities.
Chairman of the School Based Management Committee, Mrs. Modupe Okebukola, urged the graduating students to shine the light wherever they go, and make a difference in their chosen path.
She expressed confidence that with their good behaviour, outstanding academic ability and resilience, they will be tenacious and passionate in the pursuit of their dreams.
