Foundation raises N30m for out-of-school children

To support the campaign on out-of-school children, a non-governmental organisation, Ibironke Adeagbo Foundation (IAF), has raised about N30 million to tackle the menace.

The founder, Mrs Ibironke Adeagbo, said the money was raised at its recent yearly Charity Gala in London. She disclosed that the fund would be deployed to directly support the body’s key initiatives.

These, she stated, include the sponsor a child programme, bursary scholarships, as well as the provision of school materials and uniforms to children across the country.

She explained that the move was aimed at removing financial barriers to education, particularly for marginalised groups, such as girls, children with disabilities and those from low-income families.

“By addressing both access and equity, IAF has continued to work towards its vision of ensuring that every child has the opportunity to receive quality education,” she said.

She thanked the foundation’s patron, Femi Falana (SAN), for his advocacy, which she said had helped in reducing the menace of out-of-school children. She assured the foundation’s commitment to tackling the out-of-school menace in Nigeria through scholarships, school supplies, and essential support services.

The Chairman of the foundation, Mr Diran Femi-Famakinwa, noted that when children are not educated, they are more likely to remain in poverty and perpetuate cycles of poverty.
