The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB)

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has announced that its 33rd Convocation Ceremony will feature a lecture centred on the intersection of agriculture and youth development, as part of a week-long programme scheduled for late January.

Details of the ceremony were disclosed in a statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, by the Acting Head of the Directorate of Public Relations of the university.

According to the statement, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Babatunde Kehinde, on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, management, staff and students, invited stakeholders, alumni, parents and friends of the institution to participate in the events billed to hold from Friday, January 23, to Saturday, January 31, 2026.

The programme is expected to open with a Jumat service at the university mosque on Friday, January 23, at 1.00 p.m., followed by an interdenominational service at the Chapel of Grace on Sunday, January 25, at 10.00 a.m. A press conference has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 28, at the Red Chamber, beginning at 10.00 a.m.

On Friday, January 30, the university will commission a number of projects across designated sites at 10.00 a.m., while the convocation lecture will take place later the same day at the Red Chamber by 3.00 p.m. The ceremony will conclude on Saturday, January 31, with the award of first and higher degrees, postgraduate diplomas and prizes at the Professor Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building from 10.00 a.m.

The convocation lecture, titled “Integrating Agriculture and Youth Development: A New Paradigm for the Nigerian Education System”, will be delivered by the Chairman of Access Holdings Plc, Mr Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, CFR.

The university said the choice of topic reflects ongoing debates on how education and agriculture can be aligned to address youth employment and skills development in Nigeria.

Mr Aig-Imoukhuede, who previously served as Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank Plc between 2002 and 2013, is expected to draw on his experience in the financial sector and philanthropy to address issues relating to education reform and youth participation in agriculture.

The university said the lecture would contribute to discussions on how agriculture-focused institutions can support youth development and national economic goals, within the broader context of FUNAAB’s mandate in teaching, research and community engagement.
