Gov Kabir’s support could drive industrial revival in Kano state- VC

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf

The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, has commended Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his sustained support for the university, describing it as a catalyst for the revival of Kano State’s industrial capacity.

The commendation was contained in a letter of appreciation written by the Vice-Chancellor to the governor, thanking him for attending ABU’s 45th Convocation Ceremony and for his generous ₦50 million donation towards the university’s Science and Technology Incubation Park.

Prof. Ahmed said the incubation park is being developed with a strong regional development focus and is designed to drive innovation, technology transfer, enterprise development and industrial linkages capable of directly supporting Kano State’s industrialisation agenda under Governor Yusuf’s administration.

According to him, the governor’s presence at the convocation ceremony added immense value and significance to the event, while his engagement with key global stakeholders further underscored his commitment to translating vision into tangible economic outcomes.

The ceremony also featured the laying of the foundation stone of the incubation park by the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Prof. Ahmed noted that Governor Yusuf’s interaction with Dr Okonjo-Iweala during the event, and the perspectives shared, highlighted the administration’s resolve to reposition Kano as a centre of industrial growth.

The Vice-Chancellor further thanked the governor for his continued support for Ahmadu Bello University over the years, noting that the gesture places him among the few northern governors who have consistently upheld the enduring legacy of the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto.

He recalled that Sir Ahmadu Bello founded the university in 1962 as a pillar for regional and national development.

Prof. Ahmed expressed confidence that the Science and Technology Incubation Park, when fully operational, would serve as a strategic platform for nurturing start-ups, strengthening manufacturing value chains, and repositioning Kano as a hub of industrial renewal in Northern Nigeria.

He reaffirmed ABU’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the Kano State Government in the shared pursuit of economic transformation and inclusive prosperity.

The incubation park is being developed through a partnership agreement between Ahmadu Bello University and AMA Medical Manufacturing Company Limited.

The agreement was signed shortly before the foundation stone was laid, with Prof. Ahmed signing on behalf of ABU, while Prof. Abdulsalam Nasidi, Chairman of AMA Medical Manufacturing Company, represented the firm.

Founder of the company, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa Bello, alongside other senior management staff, was also present at the groundbreaking ceremony.
