To support the education of inmates in correctional centres, a non-governmental organisation, Inmates Educational Foundation (IEF) has partnered WOWBii Interactive to launch the first-ever digital interactive board in a Nigerian correctional centre.
The innovative technology board was donated to the Special Boys Correctional Centre, Oregun, Lagos.
The board is to provideinmates with interactive and engaging learning experiences at the centre.
Speaking on the donation, Executive Director, IEF, Mahfuz Alabidun, said the group is committed to liberating and reforming inmates through quality education and digital literacy, adding that the digital interactive board is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
Alabidun stated that the initiative underscores the importance of digital tools in reimagining education within correctional centres across Nigeria.
With the initiative, he noted that IEF is ready to redefine the future of education in the country’s correctional centres.
“IEF and WOWBii Interactive remain dedicated to unlocking the potential of young inmates, providing them with a second chance at a brighter, more productive life,” Alabidun stated.
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer, WOWBii Interactive, Gbolahan Olayomi, emphasised the need to transform lives through technology.
He said: “Education is a universal right and every child, regardless of his or her situation deserves access to tools that equip them for a brighter future.”
At the event, organisers held a training session for teachers and coordinators on the usage and maintenance of the interactive board.
They also challenged the teachers to upgrade their teachings to meet up with global standards irrespective of the peculiarity of the students.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, lauded both organisations for the gesture, and pledged to continue working with them in transforming lives of inmates.
