Lagos lawmaker gives cash, foods to constituents, promises scholarship

Mr. Jubreel Abdulkareem, Member, Lagos State House of Assembly, has promised scholarship for exceptional students in his constituency – Agege II – to encourage more youths to acquire tertiary education.

Abdulkareem made the promise on Wednesday at his constituency office, Agege, where he empowered 600 widows and other less privileges individuals with food palliatives and cash.

The lawmaker gave each of them N20,000 and rice, beans and some other food foodstuffs.

He said that the gesture was aimed at making his constituency members to enjoy more dividends of democracy.

“We are trying to give back to the community. We laid emphasis on voter card as the criterion for benefiting.

“Whoever has voter card, I believe, is a patriotic citizen of this country.

“We are trying to ensure that whatever we have, we give back to them.

“Also, we are assisting students in form of scholarships for exceptional ones to further their education,” he said.

He said that within his capability, he would ensure that no academically-exceptional student in his constituency would lack tertiary education.

“We will not be able to do everything, but once we see somebody who is determined to learn, we will assist,” the lawmaker said.

He added that he recently assisted the youth in Agege community by facilitating 1,000 jobs.

“We are still planning to empower them more.”

The lawmaker said that he was planning to establish a workstation, where youths could come and do any type of work that they learnt, such as tailoring.

“If you don’t have a workshop or shop, you can easily come there and do whatever you want to do.

Mr. Tunde Azeez, the All Progressive Party Chairman in Agege, thanked the lawmaker for the gesture.

Azeez said that the donations would go a long way to assist the beneficiaries.

“We really appreciate you and thank you for how you remember your constituents.

“May God bless you more,” he said.

Mrs. Bosede Lawal, a septuagenarian and one of the beneficiaries, thanked the lawmaker for the money and food items.

Also, Mrs. Mary John, another beneficiary, thanked the lawmaker, saying that the gifts came to her at the right time.
