LASU moves large classes online amid space constraints

Lagos State University (LASU) management has directed that all courses with over 400 registered students will now be conducted virtually with immediate effect.

LASU’s management, in a statement on Tuesday, claims that the directive is a response to the lecture halls’ limited capacity and its continuous efforts to digitise academic delivery.

“This decision has become necessary in view of the current constraints posed by limited physical lecture room capacities and is in line with the University’s digitalisation drive, which seeks to leverage technology for more efficient teaching and learning delivery,” the statement read.

The institution therefore directed all lecturers handling such large-capacity courses to make adequate arrangements for the seamless conduct of their lectures, tutorials and assessments using the University’s approved virtual learning platforms.

It added that students affected by this directive are equally expected to comply fully, ensuring active participation and adherence to all guidelines governing online learning engagements.

Deans of Faculties and Schools are also to ensure strict enforcement of this directive and provide the necessary coordination and supervision to guarantee its smooth and effective implementation, LASU added.

“Management appreciates the cooperation and understanding of all staff and students as the University continues to adopt innovative approaches that promote academic excellence, inclusiveness and global competitiveness in line with the vision of positioning Lagos State University as a leading institution of higher learning in West Africa.”
