
The Ondo State GovernmentGovernment has approved an N3.5 billion counterpart fund for the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to support the construction and renovation of public primary schools across the state.
According to the Commissioner for Education, Mr Olaolu Akindolire, who disclosed this after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting chaired by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Thursday, the counterpart fund would fetch the state over N7 billion.
Akindolire, who was flanked by other cabinet members, said that the construction and renovation of the public schools would be carried out across the three senatorial districts of the state.
With the education commissioner further said that the move will further enhance the progress made in the education sector in the state, the Special Adviser on Health to the Governor, Prof. Simidele Odimayo, revealed that the government had also approved the renovation of primary healthcare facilities in all 203 wards of the state.
Odimayo, who stated that the renovations will include security fencing, staff accommodation, solar power, and borehole installations to ensure the facilities are well-equipped and properly secured, expressed the government’s satisfaction with the low incidence of Lassa fever in September, alongside zero cases of cholera and monkeypox.

The Commissioner for Information, Wale Akinlosotu, reaffirmed the governor’s commitment to fixing all potholes in the state, saying that the Ministry of Infrastructure had been directed to ensure that by December 2024, the major roads in Ondo State are pothole-free.
While sympathising with the people of the coastal community of Ayetoro in the Ilaje Local Government Area of the state over the incessants sea incursions in the area, the Commissioner for Environment, Oyeniyi Oseni, disclosed that the government had completed a technical review of the Aiyetoro shoreline protection project.
Oseni stressed that with the completion of the review, the temporary and long-term solutions to prevent the environmental disaster would soon be implemented.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, stated that the exco also approved the appointment of Oba Daramola Oluwasola Samuel as the new Olupele of Ipele in Owo Local Council Area.
