The leadership of Starfield School, Lagos, has emphasised the importance of school-based sporting competition in discovering young talents and building discipline among students.
The event showcased the school’s commitment to holistic development, promoting teamwork, confidence, and academic excellence.
Speaking at its 12th Biennial inter-house sports competition, the Head of School, Mrs Juliana Eigbe, restated the school’s commitment to structured sporting programmes, citing successful intra- and inter-school chess competitions, including representation at the British International School’s Chess Competition.
Eigbe noted that the achievement demonstrates the school’s focus on developing students’ strategic thinking, concentration, discipline, and confidence.
She also announced the launch of the school’s Football Academy, designed to identify and nurture young talents.
The academy aims to produce skilled, disciplined, and principled athletes through structured coaching and mentorship.
The Principal, Mrs Sara Oyinloye, described the event as a celebration of talent, discipline, teamwork, and the indomitable spirit of young athletes.
She encouraged students to apply the discipline, confidence, and positive attitude displayed during the competition to their academic pursuits, urging winners to remain humble and others to accept defeat with grace.
She further noted that the school is expanding its involvement in other sports, such as table tennis, basketball, and athletics, ensuring that every child has an avenue to express their talent, build teamwork, and develop resilience.
