Under the auspices of UAE President HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a staunch advocate of sustainability, Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) is set to host the forthcoming edition of ADSW at the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28).

ADSW, a global initiative championed by the UAE and clean energy leader Masdar, will assume a pivotal role in upholding global climate momentum during COP28 by facilitating impactful and inclusive dialogues among all stakeholders.

It aims to translate climate pledges into practical solutions for a net-zero future. UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Chairman of Masdar, and COP28 President-Designate, Dr Sultan Al Jaber emphasized the urgency of fast-tracking a just energy transition and keeping the 1.5-degree target within reach.

He stated that ADSW, initiated by Masdar in 2008, has grown into a global initiative that extends beyond a single week. The special edition of ADSW at COP28 will provide an essential platform for a broader community of stakeholders to contribute to a just and inclusive transition to a net-zero future.

CEO of Masdar, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, highlighted the significance of this special edition of ADSW, particularly in light of the UAE’s Year of Sustainability at COP28. He emphasized Masdar’s role in spearheading climate action and expressed pride in hosting this unique ADSW event at COP28.

The ADSW Summit, set for December 4th at the Connect Conference Center in Expo City, Dubai, will revolve around the theme “United on Climate Action at COP28.” It will gather leaders from the public sector, civil society, and business to explore ways to accelerate the just transition to a net-zero future.

Hosted on COP28’s thematic finance day, the Summit will address critical issues such as inclusive investment, climate finance, and pathways to expedite sustainable development globally.

Throughout COP28, ADSW will provide a platform for thought leadership by hosting events in both the blue and green zones, facilitating climate action conversations among accredited parties, observer delegates, and the public.

In the Green Zone, the ADSW Partnership Hub will organize collaborative activities to foster idea exchange and build business relationships, along with networking receptions in the evenings for attendees to connect and share climate action insights.

ADSW’s virtual content platform, ADSW Live, will stream interviews live from the Green Zone, capturing daily reactions to climate discussions and sharing timely sustainability-oriented content wrap-ups.

ADSW at COP28 will also feature the WiSER initiative, dedicated to empowering women and girls as drivers of change and ensuring their voices are heard in sustainability discussions.
