Federal government is set to commence construction of solar power plant at Kumbotso, Kano State to bridge shortage of energy supply from the national grid.

The N4 billion critical project will form the construction and stallation of 10 megawatt Solar power plant design to hence alternative energy generation and supply to industrial consumption.

Although, the Federal government through the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) is handling the construction and installation of the infrastructure, Kano state government is providing 43 hectare of land, about 16.5km from Kumbotso town to site the project.

Flagging of payment of compensation to owners of land allocated for the project, Managing Director, Kano state Investment and Properties Limited, Dr. Jibrilla Mohammad said Kano state government has earmarked N42 million as compensation to about 100 locals.

Jibrilla, who is also the contact person for the project in Kano, disclosed that the compensation exercise was launched after due evaluation of the 43 hectare of land dedicated for the stallation of the Solar plant.

He explained that the project, upon completion will be managed by Haske Solar, a company that will be jointly owned Federal Government on 80 percent dividence while state and local governments will have 15 percent and five percent respectively.

“The state government is launching the payment of compensation execise to over 100 farm owners of where the project will be situated,” Jibrilla said.

“We have evaluated the land and Government has decided to ensure nobody is denied of their property.

“N42 million is released to Kano state Investment and Properties Limited to disburse to these benefiaries and the exercise wi last three days. The project is strategically located in Kumbots because of the industries in Challawa, Tamburawa and Sharada. It will definitely galvanize economic development and growth of Nigeria and Northern Nigeria essential.”

When fully operational, the new solar power plant projected to bridge energy supply gap to industries in Kano, will make the state one of the states in the country to have several photovoltaic installations for the supply of electricity.
