Katsina community gets power after 50 years of darkness
Yandadi, a community in Kusada Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State, is celebrating its connection to the national grid after more than 50 years of living without electricity.
Speaking on the issue with newsmen, the Executive Chairman of the area, Rabiu Kusada, said the community, home to thousands of people, had not been fortunate to be connected to the national grid for decades.
Kusada, however, said the state government recently heeded the community’s call by laying the required number of electric poles and a transformer, before connecting the area to the national grid.
A visit to the community saw an elated group of residents, who expressed gratitude to the state government for bringing an end to the decades-long lack of electricity in the area.
They said a power line had passed through part of their community but was not connected to the area, even as they added that the power grid connection would bring needed development to the area.
One of the residents, Na-Gane Maciji, expressed his excitement over the development, stating that the absence of electricity for decades had slowed down socio-economic activities in the area.
He stressed that the new power supply has revitalized businesses and improved the standard of living in the community.
“We are very happy that after more than 50 years, we finally have electricity. This has boosted commercial activities and improved our daily lives.
“We sincerely thank the present administration of Governor Dikko Radda for remembering us and providing this essential social amenity,” he said.
Similarly, Bala Lawal, a small-scale barber in the community, highlighted how the newly installed electricity has positively impacted his business.
According to Lawal, he has now purchased electric clippers, which have significantly increased his customer base and profit, enabling him to better provide for his family.
“I used to struggle with manual clippers, but with electricity, I now use electric clippers, which has improved my work. I make more money now, and I am grateful to the government for this transformation,” he added
