Nigeria’s electricity grid collapses again

Nigeria has once again been plunged into nationwide darkness as the electricity grid collapsed, dropping from about 3,000 megawatts around at 1:00 pm to zero megawatts by 2:00 pm.
The grid, managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), remains one of the weakest links in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
The TCN is the only government-managed entity in the power sector, raising persistent concerns about its efficiency and reliability.
A check by The Guardian on the System Operator platform revealed that all 19 power generation plants were offline, leaving the grid completely out of service.
In a public notice, the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (DisCo) confirmed the outage, attributing it to a loss of power supply from the national grid.
Head of Corporate Communications at Jos DisCo, Dr. Friday Adakole Elijah, stated that the grid failure occurred at approximately 1:33 pm on Wednesday.
