Nigeria Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association (NLPGA) says that in the past 10 years the sector has increase by 1,000 per cent to become one of the fastest growing LPG markets in the world.

Speaking at NLPGA Conference in Abuja, the president of the association, Nuhu Yakubu, said that the association was pulling mostly private capital for infrastructure as well as promoting local content.

He said NLPGA had working policies and programmes specific to Nigeria and Africa, adding that it is aimed at enhancing diverse applications of LPG, away from its use as a traditional domestic cooking fuel.

“We’ve taken on the new growth trajectory to journey from our current 600,000 demand to over 5,000,000 metric tonnes per annum in 10 years, with measures to impact on Africa’s LPG economy,” he explained.

Yakubu therefore explained that the players in the business have a deeper understanding of how to encourage huge investments across the value chain in the sector, such as inclusion of professionals.

“We want to actualise the Petroleum Trust Development Fund (PTDF) mandate by filling the human capacity gap in the sector, which ranges from conversion kits installation to power converstion,”he stressed.

According to him, association handles LPG value chain, from production, coastal and inland warehousing, terminal and bulk breaking, cylinder filling and distribution, advocacy, among others.
