No fresh case filed against NNPCL, others, says Dangote

The controversy involving the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other parties, which erupted in June 2024, appears to have subsided, with Dangote clarifying that no new legal actions have been initiated.
Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote clarified in a statement issued on October 21, 2024, that no fresh suit has been filed, nor have any court processes been served on the concerned parties.
Chiejina emphasised that ongoing discussions among the involved parties have led to a mutual decision to suspend legal proceedings, in line with the president’s directive for a negotiated settlement.
The original case, filed on September 6, 2024, according to the statement, has seen significant progress as parties work towards a resolution, particularly concerning the new Naira-based crude oil sales initiative. Chiejina noted that no court orders have been issued, and the halting of legal actions has not adversely affected any party involved.
Looking ahead, Chiejina said that once the discussions conclude, the NNPCL and the other parties plan to formally withdraw the case in January 2025, upon successful resolution of the matter.
