100 students paid one-year tuition fee to fake health college in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has arrested the Proprietor of Excellence College of Health Sciences and Technology, Maikunkele, in Bosso Council, Niger State, Daniel Ishaya Gurmana.

Spokesman of the command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement, said on September 8, 2022, police operatives attached to the Intelligence Unit of the command, arrested Daniel Ishaya of Gurmana, Shiroro Council, proprietor and Francis Ede, aged 30, from Enugu State, director of the institution.

The statement explained that the duo were suspected of establishing and operating a fake school, known as Excellence College of Health Sciences and Technology, adding that during interrogation, Ishaya confessed that he established the school in 2020, while admission commenced in 2021 without any authorisation or certification from an appropriate government body.

He further confessed that he forged a certificate of registration to deceive members of the public to register and gain admission into the school. According to him, about 100 students had enrolled on the school after paying N78, 000 for tuition fees and other charges, while Ede has been helping him to manage the institution as the managing director, with about 20 teachers.

The statement said the case is under investigation and the suspects would be arraigned in court for prosecution as soon as the investigation is concluded.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Monday Bala Kuryas, has enjoined members of the public to be wary of the existence of such schools when seeking admission for their wards, to avoid wastage of resources and time in attending such uncertified and unaccredited institutions.
