Academy commits to capacity building, sustainability, environmental safety

Founder, QHSES Leadership Academy, Engr. Jamiu Badmus has reiterated the Academy’s commitment to capacity building, sustainability, environmental safety and inclusivity to support Africa and the global space.

Speaking at the third convocation ceremony of the academy, which saw 238 graduands and best performing students receive over N800,000 in cash awards, Badmus stated that the academy’s goal is to transform students into Value Adding Personalities (VAP), by giving them a shot at becoming pacesetters with their line-up of courses bordering on Quality, Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability.

According to him, they support students by training them and taking them through SDG 4, which focuses on quality and SDG 13, which is about sustainability to understand climate action.

He also explained that the academy’s talks on inclusivity is to close the gap between society and people living with disability, to ensure that they are empowered in spite of their physical challenge.

“Risk and opportunities are two sides of the same coin. Don’t see them as disabled, we see them as people that should be included in what we are doing, that is exactly what we call inclusion and diversity and that is what we preach in our academy,” he said.

Badmus revealed that through a Safetainability project, orphanages have been salvaged from dilapidated states.

He explained, “we have a programme called Safetainability for orphanage, where we pick up an orphanage home and we make sure we do assessment and then improve the state of things at the orphanage like renovating the building, train staff and bring gifts.”

Finance director, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), Remilekun Soyannwo added that the society is plays indifference to the things that matter and safety is something to be prioritised.

She noted that the quality of an environment and resources used directly impacts the nation’s future so the need to emphasis sustainability.

Best graduating student (male), QHSES Leadership Academy, Okuwobi Jesutofunmi said, “safety starts with us all and it should be of value to us all because what we value doesn’t change.”
