No fewer than 100 students from different tertiary institutions across Nigeria have benefited from the maiden edition of a scholarship initiative by SOHCAHTOA Foundation.

The initiative, designed to contribute to the growth of education in Nigeria and Africa, received 18,000 applications, from which the winners were selected.

SOHCAHTOA co-founder, Mrs. Solape Fayemi who made this disclosure on Tuesday in Abuja, explained that the foundation’s undergraduate scholarship is one of her educational programs aimed at supporting students in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions

Fayemi noted that the foundation understands the transformative power of education and will strive to help students succeed in their studies.

“Amongst a couple of educational support initiatives organised by the Foundation, they are set to kick-start the Back-to-school drive and Undergraduate scholarship programme,” she said.

“The back-to-school initiative aims at supporting pupils/students in public schools with essential books, writing materials, shoes, bags etc while the Scholarship program is targeted at undergraduates in Nigerian public tertiary institutions.

“These would enable pupils and students to enjoy basic and quality education.

“The foundation is expanding its service beyond empowerment, this year which is the maiden edition has One hundred beneficiaries from over eighteen thousand applicants across six geo-political zones, we are looking forward to doing more in the next academic year.”

According to her, each of the beneficiaries of the scholarship would continue to receive N250,000 annually for tuition fees until they finish their respective programmes, adding that the foundation believed in helping the young ones to fulfill their dreams and become a better person in their society.

“The government alone cannot do it, private organisations can come in and support our society, let’s use our resources to affect our society positively.”

She advised beneficiaries to maintain good grades and produce their results at the end of each session for renewal of the award.
