As part of efforts to support indigent families in Edo State, a lawmaker representing Etsako Federal Constituency, Sunday Anamero, is set to pay examination fees for 10,000 indigent students in the state.
Anamero, who disclosed this to reporters in Benin City at the commencement of free enrollment for public school students in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), said the exercise would cover every part of the state.
The lawmaker explained that the initiative was aimed at providing opportunities for every child to thrive, as education remains the pivot for the development and prosperity of any society and nation.
He noted that financial constraints oftentimes truncate the dreams of many deserving students.
“Therefore, in addressing this issue, we have devised a plan to bridge the gap and alleviate the burden placed on indigent families.” Anamero said.
He added that the forms would be distributed to various sectors, irrespective of political, religious or tribal beliefs.
