“Every artiste ought to have at least one mentor in their journey through life” – PVD
Rising musician Victory Asemota aka Pablo Vicky D or PVD, has reiterated the importance of mentorship, saying it plays a great role in the success of anyone especially upcoming artistes in the music industry.
PVD, who is a Ghana based upcoming Nigerian artiste sees mentorship as a very necessary tool in any field or industry. He defines mentorship as the relationship whereby a more experienced and/or more knowledgeable person helps to guide a less experienced or less knowledgeable person. He said age or how old one is has nothing to do with being a mentor or mentee. He said that even though a mentor may be older or younger than the person being mentored, they must have a certain area of expertise and connection for the mentorship to work, he said.
Mentorship is a learning and development partnership between someone with vast experience and someone who wants to learn. He stated that most established artistes these days no longer have the desire to mentor the upcoming ones because they are either scared of the competition or feel they are going to take their spot in the pecking order.
“Mentorship experience and relationship structure affect the amount of psychosocial support, career guidance, role modelling and communication that occurs in every mentoring relationships. A mentor, therefore, is one who guides and develops others in his or her line of expertise,” PVD said.
Pablo Vicky said mentorship is a valuable tool for turning one’s visions to reality. He said almost every great person in history has had a mentor at one point in their lives or someone who have inspired them in their rise to success.
PVD stressed that everyone ought to have at least one mentor in their journey through life.
