Ex-young lawyer chair appointed member of NBA-NEC

Former Ikeja Branch chairman of the Young Lawyers’ Forum (YLF) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yusuf Temilola Nurudeen, has been nominated as a member of the Nigerian Bar Association National Executive Committee (NBA-NEC).

In his new role, Nurudeen will be working closely with the National Executive Committee (NEC) and 150 distinguished members of the Bar, including 38 Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs).

Pursuant to Section 8(6) of the NBA Constitution 2015 (as amended in 2021), NEC, subject to the provisions of the Legal Practitioners Act and other provisions of this Constitution, possesses powers to exercise control and management over the finances of the association

The NBA-NEC is the highest decision-making organ of the association. It also appoints representatives to any Statutory, Executive/Judicial Commissions or other bodies with a view to expressing the association’s position on any matter of public interest or any matter of general interest to the legal profession.

In addition, the apex body of the Bar also makes necessary arrangements for the yearly General Meeting through the National Secretariat of the Association, amongst others.

The choice of Nurudeen as one of the 15 young lawyers appointed, was due to his sterling achievements, while he oversaw the NBA Ikeja Branch Young Lawyers’ Forum as Chairman.

Reacting to the nomination, Nurudeen, who was former Lagos State University Students’ Union president, expressed boundless gratitude for the confidence reposed in him by the President of the NBA, Yakubu C. Maikyau (SAN).

He said: “I undertake to give my best to the service of the Bar and seize this opportunity to adequately represent the young lawyers.”
