A not-for-profit organisation, GreenLight Initiative has presented its six-month project report on ‘Empowering women for safe and inclusive mobility in Abuja’ to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The group recently paid a courtesy visit to the Corps Marshal, FRSC, Shehu Mohammed at the Abuja Headquarters who was represented by Deputy Corps Marshal Policy, Research and Statistics, Clement Oladele.
The meeting, attended by members of the FRSC management team, focused on two key objectives. A statement signed by the Country Manager, GreenLight Initiative, Star Okereh, said the report launched in August 2024 with support from the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety, initiative tackled gender-specific challenges in transportation. It trained women aged 18–35 on road safety principles and advocated for policies to reduce harassment and improve mobility safety for women in Abuja.
Additionally, GreenLight Initiative introduced plans for a new project, via Ambassadors for Safe Mobility, in partnership with TotalEnergies. This initiative is set to take place in Abuja, Lagos, and Rivers States and aims to engage school children in road safety education and advocacy.
The meeting explored potential areas of partnership with the FRSC to strengthen the project’s impact and ensure its successful execution.
During the visit, the FRSC presented an award plaque to GreenLight Initiative in recognition of its great work in promoting and advancing road traffic safety.
