The Federal Government has distributed free 40 agricultural pollination starter packs to fruits, vegetables farmers and bee keepers in Edo State.

The Federal Government has distributed free 40 agricultural pollination starter packs to fruits, vegetables farmers and bee keepers in Edo State.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Sabo Nanono, last week, said that the Federal Government was committed to ensuring food security in the country through various programmes aimed at empowering farmers.

Nanono, represented by Mr Obasi Ikenefuna, a Director in the Department of Horticulture in the ministry, said pollination services had the ability to increase fruits and crops potential by 40 to 50 per cent. a

According to him, the distribution of the starter packs was to ensure that farmers across the 18 local government areas of Edo embrace pollination services to improve their yields.

“If you are given these starter packs, do not sell them. Make sure you make use of them to improve productivity and create wealth.

“It will help you increase your income. We are also going to teach you how to use and maintain them,” he said.

Also speaking, the state Director of Agriculture (FEMARD), Mr Wellington Omoragbon, assured that the beneficiaries would be monitored to ensure that they put the starter packs to use.

“It is only when you succeed that the ministry can decide to extend the programme to others,” he said.

Ekhosayator Iyobosaro, a farmer, thanked the government for the support given to farmers through various agricultural programmes in the state. Iyobosaro, however, called on the government at all levels to provide security for farmers in the country.
