Glorious Islamic Centre equips youths on career development
Poised to bridge the unemployment gap in the country, Glorious Islamic Centre (GIC) has tasked youths on career development that would lift their socio-economic well being.
Speaking at the fourth edition of her yearly career lectures for secondary school students from all Muslim schools in Lagos recently, GIC President, Akin Laguda, said there was need for youths to define their future through career development rather than looking for white collar jobs.
According to him, all the Muslim students from various schools who participated at the programme were able to acquire positive knowledge and experience in the areas of chosen career and vocational studies.
He said, the GIC caters for social, moral and spiritual need of all persons and promote education with scholarship through the centre, adding that, the centre has contributed immensely in various areas in providing the extensive library with a lot of reference books in Arabic and English.
Laguda stated: “Our centre is a place for research and information which has transformed and aided the exposure of many student in terms of moral attitude and the quality education standard”.
The speaker at the occasion, Sabitiu Ibikunle, said: “Every student must choose a career that will not make them leaves a stressful life in future”.
Ibikunle stated that, “during our time, we don’t have the kind of opportunity all of you student have acquired today, but we still provide a role model among us”.
However, he described the career as progress and actions taken by a person throughout a lifetime, especially those related to that person’s occupations. And also, career or professional has to do with the application of academic knowledge.
He also advised that, it is good for every student to choose a career earlier in life and also good to have a vocational for the reason that not every one that will end up making a living from the career chosen early in life.
He said that, our religion Islam means peace and harmony, if you want to choose a career, you have to choose what would be able to transform your life into an enviable status.
He described the networking process as the art of building relationship for the purpose of acquiring and disseminating information, urging the participants to ensure that networking is perfectly done to influence their careers positively.
According to the centre, this year’s edition is aimed to fulfill the centre’s mission by providing medical and social services to everyone in need including Muslims and non-Muslim in the state.
