The leadership of the Lagos Secretariat Community Central Mosque (LSCCM), Alausa, has been inaugurated for a new term, pledging to deepen engagement with stakeholders, enhance infrastructure upgrade and expand community-focused programmes aimed at fostering unity and development.
Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Housing, Engr. Abdulhafis Toriola, was sworn in for a second term as the LSCCM Chairman assured his team’s commitment to sustaining the mosque’s impressive legacy, which includes a host of recent structural and administrative upgrades.
“We are going to continue to assess the mosque to look at areas of improvement in order to sustain this edifice,” Toriola stated. He acknowledging the support received, saying that with Allah’s guidance, we have been able to carry stakeholders along through our three-tier structure of governance, the executive, board of trustees and mission board.
He mentioned the achievements of the previous executive which include, the remodelling of the Walkway and Car park, replacement of large and extra-large doors in the main mosque, installation of additional air conditioning systems in the female section, remodeling of the Mosque conference room, installation of a pervasive CCTV camera system throughout the premises, the deployment of a motorised canopy for the Mosque Courtyard and an overhaul of the mosque’s digital audio system.
Toriola also highlighted administrative and spiritual strides, including the re-composition of the mission board, the establishment of an automated Itikaf registration portal and conducting regular training for Imams to improve the quality of their sermons (khutbah).
The LSCCM Vice Chairman, Dr. Ismail AbdusSalam sought unity and increased financial support from the entire community, noting that the leadership cannot achieve its objectives in isolation.
“This is a call to serve Allah, and we cannot do it alone. We need cooperation in the form of prayers, financial support and active participation in our projects. With this, we can harmonise the community and achieve the objectives of the mosque.”He urged the faithful to remain steadfast and contribute to the programmes so that their collective efforts are accepted as an act of worship.
Adding a focus on social impact, the LSCCM Women Affairs Secretary, Hajia Jelilat Abdulhamid, detailed the success of the mosque’s weekly women’s forum. The forum, she explained, offers spiritual guidance, vocational training and counselling services.
Abdulhamid, who is also a Deputy Director at the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), pointed out the forum’s targeted support for young women, including marital connection platforms for single sisters and educational sponsorship programmes.
“We need upright women to nurture children and strengthen families. Our society can only thrive if women return to their primary roles of building the home and raising responsible children.”
