About 1,000 people comprising aged men and women, people with disability, pregnant women, and vulnerable children have benefitted from a free medical outreach, carried out by Rhodes-Vivour Foundation (RV) in partnership with WellaHealth Technologies.
The outreach, which was held at Oworonshoki in the Kosofe local government area of the state, witnessed the distribution of Health Insurance Cards by WellaHealth.
The gesture was part of the humanitarian service embarked upon by the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
Executive Director, RV Foundation, Judith Rhodes-Vivour, explained that the beneficiaries were tested and treated for malaria cases, given family health care services, mosquito nets, deworming drugs, and drugs to pregnant women, as well as a health talk on how to manage themselves health-wise, to avoid high rates of deteriorations, in the absence of such intervention.
She said: “We are passionate about the well-being of the people and we believe that every Lagosian should have access to good and affordable healthcare. This particular area came to mind because there are lots of indigent people here. As you can see, the majority of the people here need help; they need the support of well-meaning Nigerians. A lot of them are struggling.
“Today, health care services amongst others are highly deficient. Many people, especially in the rural and remote places where there is little or no access to health care facilities, have needlessly lost their loved ones because of inadequacy in medicare.
“We recommend that people go for a regular health test and check up. Check your blood pressure, sugar level and protect yourself from infections. Drink clean water, prioritise your health. As they say, health is wealth.”
Head, Pharmacy Operation, WellaHealth Technologies, Abiodun Akintunde, said the health insurance card given to the people would provide them with free health services for three months.
“It is a well-known fact that the Nigerian healthcare system is in desperate need of change, and this is why WellaHealth has rapidly expanded coverage and scope of medical services, launching enhanced WellaHealth 2.0 and acquiring the online health platform, Wellvis, in 2022 to strengthen its telemedicine capabilities to ensure fast, quality, and affordable medical services.”
